I WONDER…

It would be so nice to have a roof over my head,

To not worry if it rained or snowed,

To be able to sleep in a soft warm bed,

For to sleep on the street…this is all I know.

 

My clothes are dirty and torn, I’m lucky to have shoes.

I don’t even know when or what I get to eat.

Sometimes I sleep, not knowing if the night I will make it thru.

One winter night another stole the shoes off my feet.

 

Sitting alone on the step, you pretend not to see me as you walk by.

It’s so easy for you to look the other way.

For you wish not to see the look of hunger in my eyes.

Sometimes, I wish not to wake to another day.

 

Look into my eyes; I am someone’s father, brother, and son.

We are all just a paycheck away from this, you see.

When you go to bed in your nice warm home when the day is done,

I wonder….if you ever think of me.
